Sunday 24th Oct, 2021

An Agreement for the “ONGC Model Village at Korbongpara” has been signed in between Mr. SC Soni, ED-Asset Manager, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) & Er. Jiban Debbarma, Secretary, Tribal Engineers’ Society, Tripura ( TEST) on 22nd March, 2016 at the Conference Hall of ONGC Tripura Asset, Agartala. The Model Village project will be implemented shortly by TEST and a total financial assiatance of Rs. 57, 71,835.00 is granted by the ONGC as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The target for completion of the project is one year but the agreement will be valid up to five years.

The Korbong para is a habitant of 31 families only and most of them are Korbong community. They are very much poor and one of the weaker sections comparing with other community. The most vital thing that led to the selection of that village is Korbong community, well-known as a dwindling / diminishing Tribe of Tripura and in whole State only 25 or 30 Korbong families are remaining. The selection of the Model Village project is also to safeguard the KORBONG tribes from diminishing tendency and to uplift the most downtrodden people of Korbong hamlet. They are sub tribes of Halam community of Tripura. In entire village there is no one who has completed Class-X final examination and no any Govt. employee from this village and the villagers are mostly dependent on forest resources. Considering the above fact the TES has submitted a Model Village project to the ONGC on 27-06-2013. The component of the Model Village project comprises of Community Centre, Market shed, Sanitation, Drinking water facility, Irrigation facility, internal road connectivity, Health care & education facility & also to ensure income generation to support their livelihood through Fish culture, Duck rearing, Goat rearing, Piggery & Cross Bred Milk cow with calf.

It is one of the daydream projects of the TEST and in this event on behalf of TEST, Er. Sudhan Debbarma, Advisor, Er. Amulya Jamatia, President, Er. Jiban Debbarma, Secretary, Er. Manoj Jamatia, Vice-President, Er Sashilal Noatia, Er. Rajesh Reang, Organizing Secretary, Er. Apur Debbarma and Ar. Gaurab Debbarma were attended.
