Model Village project at Korbongkami

Sunday 24th Oct, 2021

The “Tribal Engineers’ Society, Tripura” in association with “Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited” is setting up a Model Village project at  Korbongkami under  Champabari VC, Belbari Block, West Tripura District. The most vital thing of the Model village is that the Korbong Tribes are well-known as a dwindling Tribe of Tripura and in whole State only 25 to 30 Korbong families are remaining. The selection of the Model Village project is also to safeguard the KORBONG tribes and to uplift the most downtrodden people of Korbong hamlet. The KORBONGs are sub tribes of Halam community of Tripura. In Korbong village there is no one who has qualified Class-X examination when we had started the project i.e. in the month of May, 2016 and no one Govt. employee from this village. But, it’s a pleasure to inform that this year Mr. Mangola Korbong and Miss Sandhya Laxmi Korbong have passed Class-X examination first time from this village and they are now reading on Class-XI at Champaknagar HS School. We are taking care of their educational matters in our level best besides to all the students of this village. The villagers are mostly dependent on forest resources. Considering the economic status of the villagers we specially put attention on income generation to support their livelihood through Duck rearing, Goat rearing, Cross Bred Milk cow with calf and Piggery and it will be managed by group of families as a cluster. Available water bodies are taken up for Fish culture.

As one of the component of the Model village the “Tribal Engineers’ Society, Tripura” supported by “Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited” has organized a Health Camp cum distribution of Mosquito Nets & Educational valued materials on 22nd October, 2017 at the Community hall of Korbongpara under Champabari VC, Belbari Block, West Tripura District.
